The $15,000 Guaranteed tourney at West Wing Jazz Casino
Hey there.
So Diego could not play anyway, I know he must be frustrated. He and Dustin made a deal for the seat, and the 2 of us took off in the morning from Potrero to make it to the bank vaults before San Jose closing time.
We checked in at Villas del Rio - nice Penthouse with 2.5 bedrooms, full kitchen 2 bathrooms - for just $100! Corporate connections can be nice, let´s admit it :o)

In the afternoon we went up to the casino to register and then we went to have a good solid meal at the Taj Mahal - if not the only Indian restaurant in the metropolitan area, then for sure the best! Great flavors and service, and off we went to the White House Hotel and West Wing Casino with the greatest views (see above).
Roughly 40 players joined the tournament. The basic buy-in was $1,000 for which you would get $10,000 in chips. However, if you used your optional re-buy before gunstart, you would get $7,500 chips for $500 cash dollars, something 90% of the field took advantage of, including each and everyone at my table except me. But then I consulted the blinds structure, and with initial blinds being $100/200, all of a sudden my stack seemed pretty small, so I joined the madness.
Dustin stuck to our original strategy and did not rebuy at all. Unfortunately he took some bad beats on the way and he is out. So is Guiseppe, which leaves me as the only representative of the great Tamarindo poker scene left in the field. 20 players will sit down tomorrow Saturday at 7 p.m. First prize is almost $17,000 and 9 places get paid, so despite my humble $19,300 in chips when the average is more than $30,000 I am still alive, and with just a little bit of luck :o)!!??
On another note the Pura Vida Poker word is spreading in San Jose. I had a great chat with Alex Brenes, brother of the great Humberto Brenes and also a world class player (cashed in 3 of 5 attended WSOP 2006 events!). He is putting together his own Pura Vida Poker team, and hopefully with him more high class players will follow. Remember to sign your team up a.s.a.p. only 2 weeks left until the dead-line!!
More news will follow tomorrow
