Day 1 - Vegas 4th of July

I had a great night's sleep, although I still woke up too early - I will have to nap later on to get well rested before the Main Event starts. I will probably play Saturday, we'll see when I get my buy-in from Gus tonight.

Meanwhile I took a cab down to the Wynn (too hot to walk) to play the $300+30 at noon. That tournament is a favorite: Deep stacks ($5,000), 45 minute levels, great poker room althought the coffee always is cold when it reaches you.

I had a good table, a couple of quite good players to my right, and some undefined types to my left. The first hour when a little up, then down, then I finall won a decent pot when I flopped top set which eventually evolved into a full house and I got paid off, up to $6,200.

A couple of rounds later I got involved with the guy two seats to the right. Some English bloke who twice had just called on the river, once with a set with a harmless board, once with a straight he had caught on the river. I mean, he just CALLED!! How weird is that?! This time he had raised to $400 (blinds $50-100) in second position after the blinds, and I reraised to $1,200 with KK. Flop came xJQ rainbow. He checked, I bet $1,200. He thought for a split second then announced all-in. I took my time. I did not put him on aces, as I was sure he would have reraised pre-flop, but I am also sure he put me on a big hand. QQ and JJ just fit too well to how the hand played so I laid down my kings. Down to $3,500

Another couple of rounds, he again in mid position raising this time to $600 (blinds now $75-150). I am in the cutoff seat with A10h and decide to call. Flop comes Ad 9d 3c. He checks again and I bet almost half my stack $1,200. Now he thinks forever before he finally announces all-in. I am so pot comitted that I decide to call thinking he has me outkicked, but he flips over QQ!!? Another ten on the turn and then the devastating 2-outer queen on the river to end my tournament.

The dealer cheated me twice against the same dude, I will have to hope for more luck in the ME.
